BINGO Boards: Reinforcing Phonemic Awareness Skills

This field-tested game is a big hit with emergent readers and is perfect for reinforcement of phonemic awareness skills. It is best used in a small group of up to four players in either a supervised literacy center or intervention setting.

The objective of this game is to help students develop an awareness of the individual sounds in words. It provides a scaffold for students who demonstrate difficulty with this process.

This resource can be used to develop the ability to blend and segment phonemes. It includes two sets of 2, 3, and 4 phoneme Bingo boards to accommodate learners of varying levels.

Phonemic awareness is an indispensable pre-reading skill because the ability to manipulate sounds is a key indicator of a student’s ability to read. Developing these skills early-on in a student’s school career is critical for reading success.

These games correlate directly to our Phonological Skills Assessment which can be used to help determine areas of need and inform your instruction.
